I've role-played online and played D&D for a few years now, so I know the gist of it. I see some profiles of players here and I'm wondering a few things.

A) Do I really want one? I like the idea of Belegarth without so much actual role-playing. I think I need to get into it a bit longer before the feeling of calling someone by their battle name doesm't make me feel like a total nerd. (I think it's just been a while since I've role-played offline, haven't played D&D since I came to school.) In other words, how much of a character is necessary and how much role-playing is necessary/recommended? I don't know how often you guys are in-character at one of these large events.

B) What kind of requirements are involved with a character and how you guys come up with one? If I wanted to start using a persona, how should I go about coming up with that. Would I want to include any kind of ties to other characters in Nan Belegorth?

Fake name, funny clothes, the end.

You can go as in depth as you want and develop a persona as suited to you; whether that includes a whole backstory or not. As Colin said the minimum required to attend an event is a fake name and period (ish) clothing.

If you've looked at the profiles on the website then what you're probably seeing is shit that people came up with a few years ago, most of which has been since abandoned. If you decide to role-play (though nothing says you have to) then you can. But if you find at some point that you don't like the character anymore then you can change. Ask Alcon or Seraph about that...I mean...

dont worry about it now. At the most come up with a name. You can always change it. After you've been fighting a bit, start coming up with something you would like to emulate. Like me. If we get enough people we can have an army of "Bodhi through the ages" from the feeble beginings to the present day. What a sexy looking army.

Although yes, you can change your name, I would really advise thinking long and hard about your name, because once you get people knowing you by that name, it can take years for it to change. Honestly, I called Bhakdar and Kazi by their old names for like two years.
